What's this? A new post?
This post is actually going to be solely about UFC 84 this Saturday. If you're not into MMA, you can stop reading right now. At least you know I'm still alive.
My predictions/hopes:
Penn Vs. Sherk Lightweights have little-man syndrome. It's true. Sherk is no exception. And he can't deny that there were steroids in his blood when he tested (he did, however, blame EVERYONE, including his coach, his nutritionist and his sponsor, the now defunct Xyience). The gaps between ALL his teeth tell the story of the HGH he's been using (your head grows, but your teeth don't.) He's a performance-enhancing substance user. And he won't win. I wasn't a fan of Penn when he showed up to his St. Pierre fight with the belt around his waist looking like a gummy-bear, but he been hot since his Pulver fight, and he's refocused. I'd love to see Penn punch those gapped teeth out of Sherk's face, but I'm betting it's going to be his signature monkey-feet rear-naked choke in the third.
Ortiz vs. Machida Ortiz doesn't want to be a fighter anymore. For fuck's sake, he DID THE APPRENTICE. Next stop on the has-been train: The Surreal Life. Or Dancing with the Stars. He's going to join retired life with his girlfriend after Machida knocks him out in the second round.
Silva vs. Jardine The Dean of Mean has a chin about as strong as my mother's. Seriously. And Silva can take a licking from the likes of Hendo and and keep on tickin'. It'll be a great fight to watch, but Jardine is going to get caught, If Silva keeps with inside uppercuts from the clinch, where Jardine's reach won't be an issue, he should be able wear him out. I'm going to go with the safe bet and say Silva by decision because I have a feeling this fight will look an awful lot like the Liddell fight. With that said, I deeply hope the Silva that beat Rampage will show up and knock Jardine's head off.
Gouviera vs Reljic This could be a fantastic clinic on great submission wrestling. Or Gouviera will knock Reljic's head off - he's got a KO from his last fight and in general UK fighters have weaker chins.
Finally Silva vs. Mendes. Thiago Silva is the easy bet. He's a got Huston Alexander's hands but not his chin (thank goodness). Mendes hasn't even seen the octagon. Ref stoppage in the second round for Silva.
That's it. Ya'll can ream me out for calling things wrong Saturday Night. If you're in Calgary, I'll probably be stopping in with my BJJ club at Mile 1, so stop by and we can bet some drinks on my calls.
