I live on a fairly unremarkable residential street in a lively, partially-gentrified inner-city neighbourhood. Five doors down from my house is a small tattoo studio. It's just a one-person operation with everything done by appointment; no walk-ins and no real shop-front (the building has space for one, but it's just an empty room). I've checked out the artist online and wasn't particularly impressed. I'm not saying she's a terrible tattooist or anything like that, just that her stuff didn't do anything for me personally.
What I didn't know until today is that there's another tattoo studio on my road, less than a minute's walk in the other direction. Again it's a one-woman operation, but not only is there no shop-front at all, there isn't even a sign. In between a dentist's surgery and a beauty academy is a small door, which looks like it could lead to either some flats or, as is the case, some small office units. The only thing that identifies the studio at all is the artist's name next to one of the doorbells.
Turns out that this particular artist, Aimee Cornwell, does some pretty incredible work. Check these out:
There are lots more photos on the studio's website: Sōma Tattoo Studio.
There are another two artists joining the studio in the next couple of months; their stuff is pretty amazing, too.
It's just really weird that I had no idea the place even existed before now, and it's literally 100m away from my front door.
