I just put a 14 gage nose ring in my 16 gage nose ring hole(AAAAAOUCH!)the loop is smaller but the thickness is a bit bigger and I just got the 16 gage put in yesterday 
Thankfully I am a manly man so I can deal with the intense pain I just gave my self
