The other night I found myself in the finest dive bar Kingston, Pennsylvania has to offer, real seedy joint called The Glass Bar.

From top to bottom this place had it all: Bar tender who is 7 months pregnant, and smoking cigarettes, couples who look like relatives, sports on the good tv, Creed playing on the juke box, pool tables with felt missing from the surface, some 55 year old country music loving genius who could only tell me that "This ain't California, people card here. She'll (mommy with the Newports) get a thousand dollar fine if she dont check your ID buddy." The walls were weeping. Some sad lonely girl perched at a table near the retired buffet and shared the same feelings with the walls. I think she was expecting one of us to brighten her day.

The highlight of the place was that until 11 pm they served pints for a dollar. Got there at 10. Pour me another drink.

Dan and I were having a conversation about relationships and our feelings.

I used the word "promise" somewhere in my ranting. Just then I hear the sound of a crow. I look over my shoulder and to the left: A plump little post 25 year old sitting next to me at the bar. Her face reminded me of Skeletor plus ten pounds.

She wanted attention. "Y'know, you shouldn't use the word promise."

I didn't like her eyes. They bugged out of her face. "Why is that?"

"Because promises are meant to be broken."

She had several shot glasses, empty, lined in front of her pack of cigarettes and cell phone, all strewn across the bar in front of her. She sat there staring at me. She didn't have to say another word. I already knew her life story. She might as well have been pregnant too. The ash tray next to her collection was overflowing like her waist. I wanted to rescue her belt.

She started again. "Don't say 'I promise' cause-

"That sounds like a cliche to me." I interrupted her. Her eyes lit up, " I don't believe in cliches. People who live by cliches should stop watching television."

It's not quite 11. I turned back to Mommy Newport behind the bar.

"I'll have another."
