Just had a friend offer us their van for $600. Ugh. Sucks. Our car is basically dead, and shouldnt be driven. The steering is going, the steering wheel CONSTANTLY wobbles, the one door is broken and unless you push the handle down, it will fly open - which is of course the door where my almost 3 year old daughter sits. Theres a weight neailed to the front tire because it wobbles. The ball joints are going, the shocks are gone, theres a bearing loose in the motor that makes it sound like a lawn mower. It eats gas like no tomorrow. Its got over 3k on it, so its fucked. The transmission is going as well. So basically, we need a new car. Whenever we stop for more then 5 minutes, we need to unplug the battery because if we dont, the battery is dead. Weve replaced the battery, same thing.
This van isnt in the best condition, its rusty a bit (I fucking hate rust), but it runs. Were honestly scared that one day were going to be driving and the steering will go and well be in a ditch, or that the tires just going to come off. Were lucky no one has fallen out when the fucking door flies open. Its NOT going to pass its safety, and honestly, we shouldnt even be driving it. But we dont have much choice. We dont have down payment for a new one, even though its only $1000. Im on a set income, kinda like welfare only for people with disorders and disabilities. Hes finally got a job that pays well, but its through a temp - so who knows how long it will last. UGH!
I know we could live without a car, Ive done it before. But its soooo much easier. My bf gets to work by driving, we do groceries, visit family, doctors appointments, emergency hospital trips. But right now, I cant even take my kids to a city 15 minutes away for a carnival because our car wont make it. Or the pettnig zoo in the outskirts of our city, because wed break down. We miss out on so much because we just cant risk it. Everyone else was going to the lake this summer with their families, while we sat inside in the retarded hotness because we couldnt go anywhere.
Heres hoping 2012 gives up more hopeful options then 2011 did. So far it is!
