So apparently, the area of New Orleans I live(d) in is reopening to civilians on Sunday. So I think I'm going to drive down there that day, if I can find out which interstates into the city are open or closed.
Depending on the severity or absence of damage, I'll either just pick up some stuff and drive back north, or I'll stay, if it's considered not unhealthy to do so. And I will finally find out about the fate of my kitties.
I guess this means I will have to call my landlord and insurance agent later this morning. I've been avoiding making those calls because I've been afraid of what the results would be (i.e., my building was destroyed). But I suppose if I'm going to be in the area I ought to at least find out if the building is still there or not. I just hope I can get ahold of somebody at either the rental office or the State Farm office.
Perhaps some semblance of normal life isn't too far around the corner.
