'And here, over the portals of my fort, I shall cut in the stone the word which is to be my beacon and my banner. The word which will not die, should we all perish in battle. The word which can never die on this earth, for it is the heart of it and the meaning of glory.
The sacred word: EGO
~Ayn Rand "Anthem"
Anthem has to be my favorite book of ALL TIME. I read it for the second time when waiting for the train today, and I got the 50th anniversery addition book so it also had all these extras in it. It had an introducion recently written, and a letter written from Ayn Rand to her publisher when she revised the book. Just such an amazing woman.
I just love her psychological adaptation of our society. Everyone is expected to think like everyone else or it is considered wrong, or evil.
Heres something she said in her letter to her publisher
The greatest guilt today is that of people who accept collectivism by moral default; the people who seek protection from the nesessity of taking a stand, by refusing to admit to themselves the nature which they are accepting; the people who support plans specifically designed to achieve that they are lovers of freedom, with no concrete meaning attached to the word; the people who believe that the content of ideas need not be examined, that principles need not be defined, and that facts can be eliminated by keeping one's eyes shut. They expect, when they find themselves in a world of bloody ruins and concentration camps, to escape moral responsibility by wailing "But I didn't mean THIS".
~Ayn Rand
Tomorrow I am gonna start her book The FountainHead, I started it a few years ago but I stopped for some reason.
