I am so happy with this weeks blog topic - thank you @missy! I'm not sure if it's because I still love this band, maybe because I'm still a total 90s grunge girl or just because I remember the night and the show fondly. My first concert was Stone Temple Pilots at Irvine Meadows (now Verizon Amphitheater) when they toured for Purple back in '94.
I was 7. My mom took me along with my godfather, his wife and another uncle. Complete family affair. I was raised on music so it didn't seem odd going out with everyone. I remember the crowds of people, everyone looked so cool and everyone looked so different. I felt lucky to be there. I noticed that I was young, possibly the only child in my section or at all. I knew who Stone Temple Pilots were. I had already heard songs off of Core like Creep and Plush. My mom had just explained they would be playing for us and I thought that sounded interesting. Like I said, I came from a musical family. My uncles played instruments and would often jam together so that is what I was expecting. As soon as the show started I could feel it in my chest. It took over my tiny body. Your first live experience is so hard to put into words especially for a band like this. Scott Weiland is so captivating. The way he sang and moved across stage, it was unlike anything I had seen. My uncles took turns hoisting me onto their shoulders as we sang out loud. I danced and moved with the crowd. It was an experience as a child I find hard to put into words. My first experience with rock. My first love.
