I am at Alex and Dan's house (where I spent my new years) and I am on the couch I slept on mooching off of their wireless connection. I partied last night. It would be safe to say I probably consumed just as much or more alcohol on NYE. It was a party with a bunch of girls and me and Dan. I need more parties like that.
I assume I'll be periodically updating from my homebase (dan and alex were so nice and let me stay here for two nights so i brought them pizza, beer, and Jack Daniels).
I'm off to go have hash browns and hot chocolate with my friend Nastassya (from my exclusive club @ UCSC)

After hash browns and hot chocolate with Nastassya I went to the Porter front parking lot and almost fell asleep listening to Fats Waller. Then my friend Annie called me and I gave her the mix CD I made her.
Jazz For Annie:
Gerry Mulligan and Ben Webster - Chelsea Bridge
Body And Soul - Sarah Vaughan
Kenny Burrell - Soul Lament
John Coltrane and Johnny Hartmann - They Say It's Wonderful
Joao Gilberto/Stan Getz - Viva Sonhando (Dreamer)
Helen Humes - You Can Depend On Me
Sarah Vaughan - Lullaby of Birdland
Sidney Bechet - Indian Summer
Slim Gaillard - You Goofed
Mose Allison - I Don't Worry About A Thing
Kenny Burrell - Chitlins Con Carne
Andrew Hill - Mira
Jazztet - Killer Joe
Bill Evans Trio - My Romance (take 1)
Brad Meldhau - When It Rains
She was totally down to go to Streetlight Records downtown (anybody should be a bit wary of going into a used music store with me). We ran into my temporary landlords there and I ended up buying a Jimmy Smith album, a Miles Davis album, and a Booker T & The M.G.s album. We ate at Togo's and shared a sandwich and soda and then she bought me a cookie. It was such a platonic date. Of course I ended up driving her to a party and we got lost and spent way too long finding the place.
Then I got in touch with my radical "don't call me a hippie" friend Ruby and I decided to go downtown (again) and eat and get a beer. Her energy was so wild that night that I told her the whole scene reminded me of "Bringing Out The Dead" cause I kept going back into Santa Cruz with different people and it got more surreal every time. We ended up at 99 Bottles and ran into my friend Salvatore. Ruby and Sal ended up talking about grad school for like an hour and then started sort of arguing . I wish I could have gotten the fuck out of there, but my car was at Rubys.
Eventually I got back to my temporary abode and hung out and played video games and watched music and killed the Hypnotiq that they had. I ended up staying up until 7AM, the same as the night before. I just talked music with my friend Clayton. He knows a lot and has a lot of love and curiosity towards music and I really had wanted to just talk about music all day instead of other stuff, so it was great. We kept listening to this album.
This album is so tuneful, so genius, so powerful...it just used to almost bring me to tears. Definitely the album of the weekend for me.

So I ended up having lunch at Straw Hut Pizza a block or two away and drinking beer and eating pepperoni pizza and garlic parmesan bread sticks. Here is a shot of me on the way to the place after 5 hours of sleep and a lot of cumulative alcohol.
I'm just sobering/waking up right now and preparing to drive back to Mtn. View where I will no doubt crash.
Tomorrow, I'm just back to work as usual. This weekend was so college.

I got laid off today. I didn't want to do a new entry cause I like this one so much. I'll properly address this soon enough.
