Man, zenhell, the founder of the jazz group, is a cool cat. He often answers questions to posts in the form of pictures and there's like an element of coolness/hipness/humor to it that always brings a smile to my face. Me, however, I have a hard time keeping it cool sometimes.
I finally started picking up my tenor the other day and have played everything I could think on it from jazz classics (Four, Move) to appropriations of African music to the Yin Yang Twins (ha!). I'm even writing my own stuff which always seems to ape other things. I wonder if I will ever step out of the shadow of my heroes and a find a quiet place for myself where I can make awesome music.
This weekend was supposed to be full of homework, but I have no way of doing most of it. Fate always conspires to force me to start off on the wrong foot as far as school is concerned. Luckily, after this packed quarter is over, it's good by University of California and hello to getting the hell out of Santa Cruz.

"I got my own world to live through! And I ain't gon' copy you."
I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I've never read anything by Jack Kerouac although I am sure aware of who he is. Maybe this is my chance to finally bridge the gap between Jack and his compatriots and the music I so love. This could be a sign.
