Tuesday night I went to see my childhood friend Ian's band, Obliterati play at Bocce's Cellar in Santa Cruz, a restaurant/bar/bocceball place. I played my first game of bocceball ever. Then I went and had some breakfast and hung out on the beach.
Yesterday I went up to Oakland again to Yoshi's for the Elvin Jones Birthday Tribute Concert. Delfeayo Marsalis was the bandleader and the band included Jason Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Dave Liebman, and Anthony Wonsey. Definitely a killer band and a good show.
Afterwards, Ian and I went to a random party in Berkeley and I danced with a bunch of random drunken people, two of which had harmonicas and were playing them randomly. Of course I grabbed it for a bit and let loose. The one girl said "I need it for my soul!" Speaking of which...
Today I jammed with two of my friends for two hours playing jazz standards. It was so invigorating and revitalizing. I want to get better...and I want to do it more. "I Mean You" by Thelonious Monk is turning into my favorite song ever.
I have "Night Dreamer" (the lovely waltz by Wayne Shorter) going through my head.
