compliments are always nice. yes. but they are sometimes hard to accept or understand.
while I was playing music with some friends fiday night, three of us had two consecutive jams that i think were quite successful.
so, there I am, playing drums and singing at the same time (which isn't easy, no), my friend Dee is on bass (man can she hold a grooooove), and a new guy, greg, on guitar (big dead and phish fan, knows way too many covers). well gregg surprised us by jamming it up quite nice and it was good.
so we are listening back to the recording of our jam (we try to record everything cause you never know), and greg says to me "man I wish I had your voice". which is weird, cause when i listen to my own recorded voice, it sounds like shit. but his statement helped me more fully understand that it sounds different to me than to anyone else. THEN!...yes it gets better... then he says, "so, craig, are you a guitarists, a bassist, or a drummer? what's the deal?" which made me feel good, cause i don't really know what I AM (see previous journal entry, just kidding)
anywhoo.....it's the little things that can make a big difference.
BTW... I need a band to play with.....
