so... dawning was fanastic. other news:
panda fish is dead. he was a little guy who never ate very much, but it was still a bit unexpected. he looked very peaceful, though, not like dead upsidedownfish. that close-range nearsighted glimpse i got when i first found out that upsidedownfish was dead... gaaaah.
the hot water in our shower will not turn off - there's currrently a substantial trickle of water, hot enough to burn, spilling down 24-7 no matter how much we turn the faucet towards off. and then, when i try to take a hot shower, i turn the faucet the other way but the trickle does not get any heavier, and so i have to take extremely low-pressure, water-conserving showers if i don't want the water to be absolutely chilling. sucks both ways. we've been trying to get somebody in to fix it with no luck so far. our apartment has become exceedingly muggy - hot and humid - and i can feel it beginning to affect my breathing. it's really, really humid. i've turned on the air conditioner in the front room - it's cooling, but does nothing for the humidity. with the hot front from the bathroom and the cold front from the frontroom, perhaps we can expect rain in here in the bedroom? dunno, but it certainly feels like it.
got a haircut... tell me, people, what is the appropriate tip for a $20 haircut? somehow i've gotten this far without ever learning these things, and i fake it as best i can but i'd like to have a sense of it so i know i'm not gypping people or fleecing myself. anyway, haircut was meant to be shortish so that my line-of-growing-out-red-hair-color doesn't look quite as silly, but as it is i think the lady took off no more than a couple of inches. have mixed feelings. i'm not so keen on short hair, but at the same time this haircut didn't really do mch at all. i think the haircutters are always sensing my ambivalence and erring on the longer side, which is hardly blameable, but still a bit frustrating. what wuld help the most, of course, would be if i'd only get a clear idea of what it is i frigging want. but this new haircut is good, so hey.
i'm going to find some pants and get out of this tropical zone - luckily i got a bunch of books from the library on friday, so i can occupy myself wherever.

And yes, haircutters will always err on the side of long, because you can always have them make it shorter, but getting it longer is a lot harder. Try finding a pic of a style you like or Photoshopping one of yourself to see what you'd look like with various styles if you're having trouble deciding.
I think long hair is sexy, especially down to the waist or lower. This is a huge pain to manage, so few people have it. Ah, well...
