things from the first day of work:
- respectable work clothes aren't really *all* that bad. not that i've got enough to last the week without dipping into the stuff that's too big on me and hangs funny, but eh. is nice enough for now.
- was a bag of five lindor truffles (one milk chocolate, two white chocolate, two dark chocolate... dark chocolate truffles aren't half bad, really) on my desk as a thank you from the darden student body for doing my job well and such. i imagine it was a department-wide thing. rock!
- my coworkers are cool. got in this morning and everybody was off in the other room... wandered over and it turned out one of em had gone on a hot-air balloon ride over the weekend and was telling the tale to the assembled group, complete with photos to show and a whole lot of enthusiam.
- turns out my job's gonna be 9-6, cause of hour long lunch break. 6 is late. *sigh* plus the cafeteria will be closed during much of the summer, which means i get to bring a bag lunch most every single day. and stay at darden for lunch. sometimes my coworkers might take me along with them to pick up lunch... i guess i'll just have to be all likeable. *will socialize for food*
- got an official orientation from my supervisor. it is at times like these i hope i don't look two strained. it took a full two hours, if not more - i can't recall exactly when we began. and somewhere towards the end i got chilled and my eyes started watering. i think perhaps its because i don't blink enough sometimes. supposedly people blink more when they're nervous and others can pick up on that. so i think i subconciously try not to blink too much, and then my eyes dry out, and turn red, and refill with liquid, and i end up looking like i've just been told my dog died.
- ate my hour-long lunch (two cheap large greasy pieces of pepperoni pizza, because cafeteria was out of plain cheese - but hey, once you reach a certain grease saturation point there's no point in being picky) outside to thaw myself from the AC. was a gorgeous day, with blue sky, green grass, and an enormous red ball only an inch or two less tall than i am. i am a tall girl, and the ball spanned from my toes to my nose.
i was delighted, and after i ate i played with it. ran behind it to get it rolling and then bellyflopped onto it and bounced back a couple times, which was fun, but then the third time i went bellying up and over the crest of the ball realizing o shit that i was going to be face-planted into the turf and my body and the ball together roll over my head and neck go crunch... so i scrabbled to the side as much as i could while plummeting earthwards, getting my side and almost-back to take the brunt of the landing force. hit the ground hard on my shoulder/arm/back-of-my-nice-white-shirt and said "oif." yay karate for teaching to tuck one's neck! yay again for no grass stains (verified later, in the bathroom). am glad i did not kill myself on my first day of work, darden's sole fatality to the massive happy red ball.
after that, i stuck to just dribbling the ball. which was also very cool - it was huge and heavy, too big and heavy and awkward for me to lift from a standing position - and making in bounce a foot and a half up in the air (and ocassionally bounce me up instead if i accidentally dribbled off-beat) was entertaining too.
- yay for darden's catered food, even if it's meant for other groups. we're all allowed to quietly snag stuff... got myself two oranges and a couple of oreos too. mmm.
- stress. stress. stresss. work-stress. eesh. graduation. geeeh. room full of crap. oyyyyy. *vibrates*
- wrapped up stuff to present to internship sponsor to show him how much i learned working at darden this past semester, and how it's all intimately related to cognitive science and i am so deserving of that credit for the internship counted toward my major. figured out how i will break away from work early tomorrow to meet with him.
- i need to go dancing really soon. it's been forever and i hate just stressing all in normal life with nowhere lively to shove it off from me. that said, i'm working out again tomorrow. must remember to grab workout clothes. but it's not the same as dancing, dammit. no goth nights nearby that i know of this week - it's all next week. i hope that big red ball is there again tomorrow.
- my nice stappy black work sandals look great and carve the skin off my feet. my mom makes jokes about how she wishes she had them; when she comes for graduation i shall give them to her. they are horrible horrible to wear and whether my supervisor frown upon sneakers or not, i must find another way. ouch.
- now to bed for another crazy day of work tomorrow. we miss the fatespawn, talked and played some videogames with him and a friend earlier, but are somewhat distracted as stomach is full of stress and has been, on and off, for a couple days now. it goes away when we're moving about - therefore gotta walk and exercise and eventually dance. and get to the point that graduation is over and we are moved into the summer place. it isn't so very much longer...

p.s. how tall are you, if you don't mind me asking.
