REN AND STIMPY DVD: animation missing from the first and second series.
so, this is sort of a public service entry. i have compared my video tapes of ren and stimpy to the new dvd releases. my copies are from nickelodeon, circa 1991-93 often, (like powdered toastman) theyd air something once and then cut things that recieved complaints. so, while im pretty sure this list is complete, it might not be 100%, as I didnt tape every episode in it's first airing.
CUTS:
as noted in the cartoon group, there are additional cuts to

and Son of Stimpy
The cuts are:
Rens Toothache: R+S saying goodnight sweetly and stimpy flossing, some tooth brushing, and spitting in a jar. the gross stuff, essentially. also, when ren grinds is teeth in his sleep, they cut that from 4 grinds to two.
Big Baby Scam: there is one close up shot of ren's face scratching against stubble. it is the tightest closeup. also, 'gram'pa' does not whistle in the bathtub (what he whistles is a reference to the famous peter lorre film, M)
Haunted House: The entire 'spumco Bloody Head gag is gone.
The Cat that laid the Golden Hairball: some shots of stimpy licking his arm are gone, with heavy friction!
Son of Stimpy: there are about six shots missing from the scene with stimpy awake in bed. in order: external shot of house, long pan from cieling to painted stimpy in bed, eyes orange, shot of stimpys eyes, huge pupils, shot of ren and stimpy with moonlight from the window on the bed, shot of ren, asleep on the other side of the bed, painted shot of ren and stimpy in bed, stimpy's eyes, pupils go from small to extremely large, shot of ticking clock. the dvd goes from the external shot to the clock shot.
later, after ren pulls stimpys present from beneath the bad, it cuts to stimpy smiling. ren says "heres your christmas present stimpy, i hope you like it... whereever you are. " pull out from stimpy to reveal its his picture.
the dvd resumes with ren standing besides stimpys picture.
On the plus side we get a great pantomine of stimpy describing stinky to a plice sketch artist!
all in all, not many cuts. not at all. most of these seem like they would have been cut for tighter pacing, or hygenic squeemishness. the dvd also restores every cut ive seen otherwise, incl,uding stuff a friend of mine got on an 'forbidden ren and stimpy' tape.
QUALITY
The quality is excellent here, and many of the episodes have been digitally remastered. the only flaw is with the format of dvd. since some of the material has to be digitally compressed, flat blank areas (usually of the color black) will sometimes seem pixelly. since many of ren and srtimpys backgrounds are of simple washes of color,there is a fair amount of moving going on in the backgrounds... it makes it look as if the backgrounds have some sort of texture to them, like they were made on a toothy paper. some of the subtle washes from one color to another might look like a band of colors.
If anyone has more material, id be glad to hear it, and thanks to the 13th sinner for heads up on these cuts.
