Monday morning has come. For those of you keeping up with the Atti chronicles, last time I was about ready to leave for Canada and suffice it to say I made it one piece. It took me about 10 1/2 hours to make the drive. If it had not have been for getting stopped by Immigration at the border (ready more below) I would have been here probably an hour earlier than I was.
Immigration... yikes was that an interesting process. I should have known something was amiss when I was pulling to the border and I was the only one driving a car from the States. Needless to say I was questioned over and over again for my reasons on visiting Canada which was a tad embarrassing since I had to pretty much spill my guts in front of Canada and all. I laugh at it now but at the time they were questioning me and going through everything in my car, it wasn't so much to laugh at. I had been on the road for 9 hours at that point. Hunger had begin to send signals to my brain saying "are we there yet? I'm starving." After enough scrutinizing they let me go on my merry way into Canada. I will admit that up until that point my trip hadn't seemed real, and then the border woke me up and I realized that I was on a real journey.
I pulled in around 8pm central time, frozen and hungry after a long day's drive. MK and I proceeded to go to a local pub that was down the street to have a few of Canada's finest beverages before returning back to the apt. I passed out like a light from such a long drive. I always forget how draining a long drive can be. At least on the drive back I will know what to expect and I"m sure the border will be a much simpler crossing (I hope). I honestly thought that they were going to pull out the latex glove and do a strip search of me. Lucky for me they didn't.
As for today, we are planning to go around town and do a little shopping and take in the local sights that Winnipeg has to offer. I'm interested to see what this city is like during the day since I came in at night and was more focused on where I was going rather than what was around me.
More to come later on this week from my adventures in Canada.
