I find myself laying in bed on this cold Saturday night, looking out the window at the snow falling so gently against the stary backdrop of the Iowa sky. All the while a flurry of thoughts and emotions are racing through my head so fast that I barely have enough breath to stop and ponder what imaginings I come up with. Needless to say that this journey I am about to undertake has gotten my mind a buzz with the thoughts of new opportunities and adventures just within grasp for me to take hold of. Like Columbus, Lewis & Clark and Armstrong before me I find myself resting on the edge of a cliff, looking out into the sea of the endless unknown. It's very frightening and exhilierating at the same time.
Twelve hours from now I will be hunkered down in my tiny car, bounding northward toward the border my heart racing to the beat of the car engine. I must say that I never thought that a month ago I would find myself in this position but nonetheless, sometimes you can't see ahead of you what cards you are dealt until they lay face down in front of you, waiting for you to take a peak to see what you have.
I'm definitely curious to see how things play out on my little trip. I'll be more than eager once I get there, its the 10 hours of grinding through countryside, small towns, and local radio that will be killer. Once I can immerse myself in a place where the "against" is slightly different I"m sure that reality will sink in and I can enjoy my time there with my new friend that I get to spend my 23rd birthday with and the days leading up to christmas. Which is great because otherwise I would be spending them in Iowa alone.
Sleep has finally come... assuming I can get my mind to slow down enough that I can drift into unconsciousness. My last night in America... More blogs to follow in my journey.
