Today I got a Gmail invite. I'll try not to let it go to my head. Is Gmail about status? Perhaps it is simply creepy.

This weekend we saw The Stepford Wives. And indeed, where else can you hide a town of robots, but Connecticut (or New Jersey or my own suburban Chicago). I love a good critique of suburban misogyny and, in my mind at least, this film serves up a decent critique. Nicole Kidmans character (Joanna Eberhard) is not too bad on the scale of feminist constructs. In...

Manayunk to Penn?! My goodness you ARE ambitious. Hope you've been practiing on some hills, because that route's got more humps than Cinemax at 2AM.

I'm at LaSalle - much to far to bike from center city - both teaching and as a student. I started at Penn, but left after I found my particular program was run by mean-spirited fuckwits.

You're not in the GSE by any chance....are you? eeek

You know what the "W" in Wharton stands for, don't you?

"Fuckin' rich." tongue

Wharton, huh? That's pretty cool. I actually know a few professors there. If you're doing ethics I'll bet you dollars to donughts you'll run into the coolest philosophy professor, ever....

....and I'd give you his name right now....but, fuck me, it's just slipped my mind. confused I hate that! Damned aphasia. I can see his face.....I'll go look it up.

So when's your ETA in Philly and will you be properly mended by then?

I have no idea where Reagan picked up greatness from. I think it was the suffering through Alzheimers personally. robot kiss

i would totally be down for hanging sometime. the summer is on! smile

by & by, i gotta say - i understand completley your reservations about women preforming for men. it's an odd place. i was talking to my good feminist friend, and she was like "strip clubs are so cool - b/c it's just play and play is good" (she's tres-posty) ... and so, while i don't plan on becoming a 'regular,' i'm not sure sure that i'm as anti as i once was ... i'm in a moral grey zone on this one wink

Anybody seen Troy? Can you help but picture gold-wrapped latex when you hear the word Trojan?

Also, I have a theory about the knife-to-throat sex scene. It is one of the only scenes I can remember in a mainstream movie that caters to a female audience.

It didnt do anything for me, but my friends were melting.

Never did get to do a retrospective on Asunder wink , and now I'm leaving tomorrow for New York>>Italy. My SG tokens are runing out and I'm saying goodbuye to all my virtual friends. Will be gone for at least two years, but may come back to the "fold", more brave and with nekkid pictures wink

Ciao, baby----rides off on Vespa.
trixel:
I just read your abortion stance. Well thought out and acknowledges the grey. I'm a pro-choice activist with some personal reservations about being to abort a fetus inside me. I've never been pregnant so it's not been an issue, thankfully. Anyhow, I just wandered by here to say hello from the Feminist group which I just joined. kiss

Oh and my current journal is about my battle with eating meat. surreal

Shit...I keep saying I'm going to take some time for myself and go see a weekday matinee at Evanston Century....maybe next week.

This is my abortion post: feel free to not read.

If you believe a fetus is merely a part of a womans body and, therefore, hers to govern, pierce, tattoo and abort, then there is little doubt that she should have total agency in her decision to do so.

If you believe that a fetus has some intrinsic moral worth (as a child of God...

It's true that privilaged women have a greater access to child care and safe abortions, but i think it is unfair to say that it is sometimes used as contraception by irresponsible privaleged women. I see that you have a well thought out opinion on the subject, and you have many valid points, but i do think that you should be careful to steer clear of the irresponsible contraceptive bit. I feel it can be very offensive and insensitive even though it is prefaced with the qualifier "sometimes." Im sure it was not your intent to offend or insult; it's just my feelings on the subject.
asunder:
Sorry bout that argon. That sentence describes the abortions that piss me off. They do exist. Even so, my apologies for the offense. I simply mean to say that when I fight for reproductive rights, it isn't these women for whom I am fighting. I fight for the downtrodden, the oppressed, those who fear dire consequences under the tyranny of a misogynist society should their pregnancy even be known.

I broke my arm biking Sunday so these will be the days of short hunt-and-peck posts, vicodin-inspired revelries and compassion-building for the less-than able-bodied.

It is also a time for hyphens.

I saw peaches this weekend. She was fan-fuckin-tastic. She rubbed her cleavage-sweat-blood-spit-juice onto my forehead. I may be in love.
saritalr:
peaches! too cool! i hope you danced for me smile

i cant believe that about your arm! its sad that typing is the first thing that comes to my mind, how terrible! you can do it though! how long will it be in a cast? i assume its in a cast... did it hurt? ive never broken anything.
i hope it feels better!
kamille:

aww. sorry to hear that! that sucks. i've never broken a bone, but i did sever the tendons in my right pinky a couple years ago. no fun at all. nasty surgery, big zigzag scar, and lots and lots of physical therapy. my hand was in this bizarre cast thing FOREVER. anyway, i feel your pain!!

Some of us have active sex lives and some of us dont. Whether yea or nay is largely a question of circumstance. Want sex in college? Join some permeable circle where socialization is largely lubricated with ethanol. Want sex as an adult? Follow the same advice. Sure, pretty people get laid more easily, as do wealthy people and famous people.

But the sex available through...

I really love the film Winged Migration.
I love it a whole lot.
Am I too old to be jealous of flight?
I think not.

salt pouring through my body as sweat or tears.

Im setting up some summer trips which are uber exciting: Omaha and Argentina, Dakota and Delphia, Minneapolis and Moravia. OK, maybe not Moravia, but the...

I actually had an opp to see that film but didn't watch it.. now I wish I had...
wigglefree:
yeah a series of girlfriends and my parents have been trying to get me to see that movie for ever.

could you do me a favor bro. Could you post the fallowing under a new topic to the regrouping the foreskin group? I quit that group. Fuck that shit. You know?

We need a policy on self-actualization for this group. The way I see it is this is a shelter, a bastion of compassion and healing for the savagely cut. We may not get that back, but self-actualization is a part of a bigger foreskin picture. I propose broad latitude for irrational behavior. As long as it begins the healing process. How could it be wrong?

I love this exchange, so I thought I'd post it:

I am a 21 year old straight male who is graduating from Penn in May. Starting in July, I will be working out in Malvern, and I am looking for a 21-25 year old straight male roommate to split a 2 bedroom apartment in Suburban Square in Ardmore (right on the R5). Email...

dear god craigslist is too funny. i was looking at one ad in vancouver where the person wanted to get rid of their couch due to its left wing political leanings. too funny.

and to answer your earlier question. i shoot with a nikon d100, as well as an f80. i also have an fm2 kicking around as a back up, although i do enjoy taking it out every once and a while, just because it feels so good to shoot with.

if you want to check out some more of my work, i have a site. you can see it here.

Hello my new friend. I delved into your earlier journal entries and found it will take me some time to respond to your entries. But, I believe I will rise to the challenge now that I have an "accidental masters degree" wink (see recent journal entry)

I saw a pile of films at Eberts overlooked film festival this week. I saw a beautiful 70mm print of Lawrence of Arabia, an interesting film called Tarnation that was assembled from 20 years of home video footage capturing a family rife with mental illness. I saw the documentary El Norte and My Dog Skip (and got to pet skip).

And then I saw some...

How was Patagonia? A friend and I are going to be climbing Aconcagua on the Polish Glacier route this december then I was thinking of heading to Patagonia with my girlfriend after the climb. What are you going to be doing in Argentina during their winter? Climbing?

There are a few really awsome caves in the midwest, but as far as I know they are all commercialized and guided... sucky. There is an interesting one UNDER the minneapolis campus that I've been in, but it's pretty small.

I've been climbing in the black hills... the needles and such, it does kick a lot of ass out there. You ever climb at Devil's lake, WI? It's pretty awsome there too. Laters
