i'm leaving this dream here for solisis, who apparently makes dolls...
RED NANCHING
in the dream, i'm at home, sick. it's night-time. my parents arrive and tell me that we have to run, because the family is going camping. outside, there's a string of cars waiting. i climb into a car with a bunch of relatives i've never met . we drive off.
we get to a beach with lots of dunes and step outside. there are many people here, sitting on the sand. i'm with my father, who tells me he's going to be dead soon. the beach is bathed in a creepy orange-red glow. i look to see where the light is coming from, and i see two monstrous structures that rise from the beach straight up into the heavens. the tops of the structures disappear into massive, dark clouds and appear to stretch up into infinity...i understand that they are mountains, jutting upward and glowing red, whether from inner light or reflected light, i can't be sure...the surfaces are cracked as if caused by volcanic activity.
my father tells me this is Red Nanching, and to watch out for the spirits of the dead. i turn to look, and slowly, the Chinese spirits start to rise out of the dunes. they hand out jewellery boxes to people on the beach. the boxes contain gifts for the living. a woman spirit gives me a box--i choose a necklace and return the box to her. she gives me a sly, crafty look and tells me never to come back again. the whole family goes home.
i wake up and try to write down my dream, but i keep waking up into another dream, then another dream, then another dream. finally, i give up and go outside into the hallway and into an elevator. i see two of the relatives that i met earlier. i ask them, "did it really happen?" and they say, "yes...it was Red Nanching." the implication is that we're all going there again. at this point i force myself to wake up because i'm too frightened to keep dreaming.
