A little bit of good news for a change...
I didn't post about how my old car died after that last long round trip to Utah. Transmission started slipping constantly once I started the car the next day. As I'd already put too much money into an old and now-ugly car, I rented for a few days and shopped for cars when work would allow me to.
The guy who looks like Rod Stewart's sales reps were a bit unprofessional, and the stuff I was interested in was way too high in price. I went to another place ironically called "Integrity" that advertises low prices on the Net but then slaps on $895 fee on each car (atop the tagging, taxes and whatever else) which covers them inspecting and fixing whatever's wrong with the car. I'll omit the details of how steamed I'd gotten from all the time I wasted with that guy. He had a fake name and changed numbers and explanations once or twice, that was a turn-off.
So I went to the last dealer that my web search seemed to indicate was doing something similar (though I noticed that the add-on fee was rather LOW and didn't mention anything vague about that stuff). So went off to Carmax and got a great deal on a PT Cruiser convertable. It's a 4 cylinder turbo, not sure how the mileage will end up being. Looks great, fun to drive, has a roll bar so it actually has a decent turn radius and fits EASILY in a parking spot.
