My heart is breaking. After 75 years of teaching music to young people, the Freelancers drum & bugle corps is about to fold. The greed of tribal gaming has taken away the primary source of funding and the organization will most likely not be able to rebound from this. I've been a Freelancer for 20 years now and my experience learning from this org has been invaluable to my life. The friends I've made will continue on but I'm saddened that kids will not be able to have the same opportunities with music that I did. With funding for school music programs being cut, a lot of kids turned to organizations like the Freelancers. UGH! So frustrating and disappointing that we have to break a lot of hearts because we can't even finish this competitive drumline season.

I have friends that marched Freelancers in the very early 80's who will be deeply saddened by this.
Why is music such a disposable commodity these days? My heart breaks for you, my dear. Drum Corp is an amazing experience and it's a shame that you'll be disbanded.
