Hmmm... 2 post in one day.
I wanna buy a new car. I've been looking for about 6 or 7 months now. I'm going between Volvo, Saab, and Mercedes.
Currently I drive a 4-door car and I hate it. I don't need 4 doors; I don't have any kids and don't plan on it anytime soon.
I've always wanted a convertible but I don't like the soft tops and I'm willing to settle for a 2-door coupe. There are only 3 retractable hardtops *currently* on the market, the Mercedes SLK, the Lexus SC430, and the Cadillac XLR.
I say currently because Volvo is supposed to be coming out with a retractable hardtop based off of the currently S40 to replace the C70 called the C50, see below for details.
So for starters, the only real contender on that list is the SLK.
The SLK is HELLA small, but don't get me wrong the car is SICK. It not only has heated seats but the head rest have air vents in them so that you can drive with the top down in cold weather.
It's 268 hp, with a 6-speed transmission. I like the car a lot but I keep asking my self if I’m willing to have my only "good car" be only have two seats. Obviously I can't drive it in the snow, so for that I'll have to use my current FWD car.
In walks in the Volvo.
The New Volvo S40 is the car that I wanted when I first started searching about 6 months ago.

If I get this car it will be the T5 with AWD. This car has some serious potential. With a chip upgrade the car will pull about 235hp. Then we add a new exhaust with blow off valve, a front mount intercooler, turbo timer, some HRE's, Lower it about an 1" 1/2 and add an evolve body kit and the car will be very nice. It will hopefully look something like this:
Back to the C50:
This car has everything I want. It has two doors, a retractable hardtop, and it comes in AWD. It's supposed to premier at the Paris Auto Show in the Fall and might not make it to the dealerships till early spring 2006.
Now the question is, should i wait and get the car I want, or get the next best thing. Honestly I think I can be happy with the S40. I test drove it several times, and I love the way it feels. But I don't want to jump the gun and buy it until I test drive the C50. I really wanna give it a chance.
Tell me what you think.
Oh and the Saab I was thinking about is the Saab 9-3 Arc.
