So....my son starts on his ADHD meds. He is 6 and a total ball of energy. If any of you have never been in the same room as an unmedicated child with ADHD (much less parented one) you will notice the non stop craziness. Some days I don't mind it. I have even stopped counting how many times I've said to sit down or stop jumping off of the couch. The problem is that the teachers (Kindergarten mind you) are fed up with him. He doesn't have many friends and is constantly in trouble. The only reason I even gave mediation a thought is because I'm tired of him being picked on by adults.
On the one hand, I know the teacher has 23 kids to manage all day. If he (my son) was just a little bit more quiet or sat down half the day, her life would be easier. But, on the other hand, why should I give him medications that have a long list of mild to severe side effects just to appease this person? does he really need to fit in? who am i really doing this for?
