"My President's black, Ashley,"
That was the text I got from my best friend Dana after the election polls were closed and Obama was announced as president. Why is it such a big deal to me? Because of how much it means to her. Maybe you guessed it, but, yeah, she's black.
I can't really understand what its like for her. I just wish her mom was around to see this. Its just....wow.
What is it for me? I laughed, I yelled, I cried. I can't describe it really. But its just like this weight has been lifted, for the time being at least. I hope that this feeling comes to be true.
For now, I'm not afraid of the America my 2 year old nephew is going to grow up in. For now, I'm not afraid to admit I am a bisexual. I am not a by the book right wing extremist Christian. I am a woman who does not fall into a preset line simply because she is a woman.
I was not silent and should wrongs continue to be done, I will continue to speak out and fight for what is right. And I just can't help but feel that maybe, just maybe my voice and the voice of the people will be heard and listen to.
