I am never sure about Flux. There's something about her that doesn't seem quite right, somehow. Too knowing, perhaps.

1795. ~60 years before the ruinous Dred Scott decision, but two years after the 1793 Fugitive Slave Act. A runaway slave, whose name is lost to us, is apprehended by bounty hunters in Middlebury, VT and brought before the Vermont Supreme Court by his owner to arrange his return. Justice Theophilus Harrington demands that the 'owner' produce proof of ownership. The owner produces a bill...

You keep reminding me why I comment here smile Kudos to Justice Harrington.
(Not that that will do him any good, of course.)

Update:

I decided that even if I didn't fail Environmental Law and Administrative Law, I didn't understand them at all. I had to petition the highest authority, the shadowy Committee on Standards to withdraw at this late date, but the powers that be granted my humble supplication.

I should have had 16 credits this semester. Now I'll have ten, and two withdrawals. If I managed...

Well that sounds like rational decision-making on your part; among other things, it's certainly better to withdraw than fail. Good for you. And good luck.

Hey, thanks guys. I'm more than likely going to ride things out. Grades aren't going to be good this semester, but I don't think they'll be bad enough to end me. I just really need to motivate and salvage what can be salvaged of the semester, and to try and get motivated for next semester.

Thanks for your kind words, friends. They mean a lot.

I'm listening to the oral arguments for Boumediene v Bush.

I don't have much to say about that, other than that council for the respondent pronounces Hamdi kinda funny. He does know how to pronounce Uighur, though, so points for that. I spent a very stressful semester writing a brief on this case for my writing class. I had the job of defending the states...

Snow day!!!!

It is be-he-you-tiful here today. Six inches of snow blanketing the field and the river behind our house thick with little ice flows. Not so good for driving or trying to get anything done, but no school so who cares. Oh, and one of my house-mates has a puppy who's never seen snow before. He's psyched. I'll try to remember to take pictures...

Thank you for that, it's appreciated.

It's wet and windy here; the usual dreary British winter. I don't care about the weather, really; but the short days get to me.

Those photos are beautiful! It's cold here too... but the river by my house is a bit smaller and it's frozen solid and covered with snow.

I don't think we've ever talked but I had to click your profile when you posted cowboy boots in the sneakers thread. biggrin

Why can't you put SGs on ignore?

Edit: I don't think I'm going to talk religion with anyone on the internet ever again. Whenever someone brings it up I'll just put 'em on ignore and save us all the time.

It's difficult, I think. It's particularly difficult when there's confusion between religion, ethnicity, and nationality; as seems to be the case a lot of the time. I sympathise with your desire to avoid wasting the time and (more important) the anger and irritation which often result.
sockpuppet:
You remember correctly.
I think I'm probably anti-religious, but I'm realistic enough to see that pushing the point only raises hackles. Generally, I try to stick to reasoned argument.

Naw, only in my dreams are they real Cubans. The popular Cohibas here are Cuban seed Dominican grown.
I'm going to ask my smoke lady what about the R&Js, I think they make a pretty wide variety too.

People seemed to be in agreement that the one I think is experimental was. I think everyone had a much harder time with it. It was just so odd, it really threw me off. Thanks for the support though.

Cricket bat handy ? Shotgun ? I donno. wink

I really like the Acid line. I'm not exactly a connoisseur. And a real cigar enthusiast might be offended. They are sweet is the first distinction. It fades out as you smoke, like it's not IN the tobacco. It's like they dip them in sugar cane water or something. But the tobacco is also blended with some herbs and essential oils. They aren't anything like the cheesy hippy herbal ciggarettess or anything. They still are distinctly a cigar, but it does make them a bit different. I think in a great way, but like I said, . . . not a connoisseur.
There is one in the line that's not "infused" (as they call it) it is labeled The One. But that one, the tobacco is cured in different red wines.
Haven't tried that yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Snow. I miss it, but about half an hour of shoveling would cure that.

Maddy Prior, yes. Oddly enough, I have been wondering about another founder member, Martin Carthy; I suspect he's been systematically recording songs Steeleye Span have - I guess the word is "covered" - and I think it's because he dislikes their approach.
I haven't heard anything of theirs since 'All Around My Hat', IIRC; but Below The Salt and Commoners Crown were the first folk music I heard (apart from The Weavers; who do count wink ).

Oh man, you guys need to check this out. Sometimes Dylan really reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite.

I've been very impressed with these smokes from Nicaragua lately. Acid brand. Handmade, very nice smoke for the money. The 1400's are my favorite so far, but I've got an Atom Maduro here I'm looking forward to trying. It's the same size and has the same sweet aroma as the 1400 but is significantly darker. Yum.

Thanks for askin smile

I hope you're well. How's Vermont doin? Is it white yet ? I sure miss it sometimes.
Most of the Dylan videos got pulled by youtube btw. But I did get to enjoy a few of them. Thanks. He's such a trippy dude. Gotta love it. It makes my want to run out and but a leopard skin pillbox hat.

Yeah, I tried it again and it didn't work so much then either.

Okay, so I've been a ghost around here lately. I don't see that changing anytime soon and I feel like I owe you guys an explanation. I don't really know where to begin, though, so suffice it to say I've been in kind of rough shape since shortly before I joined SG. There's been responsibility and stress on levels I never really had to deal...
