I have come to realize that I must now apologize to everyone that I ever ridiculed for the use of audiobooks. They're quite good, to a point. Now, I will still frown upon anyone with working eyes that relies solely on audiobooks. However, I feel audiobooks are great for when one is multitasking.
On whim I purchased My Life by Bill Clinton. I had heard people say good things about the book itself, and there had been people encouraging me to soften my position on the audiobook, so I figured that I would give it a try and see how I liked it. Well, I tried just listening to the thing. I couldn't stand it. It was what I hated most about the technology. It was today, at work, during a long period full of paperwork that I thought "Hey, why don't I try listening to the book ..." Well, I loved it. I picked things up while being able to concentrate on my work as well. So, paperwork done and three hours of the book out of the way, just like that. Yes, I do remember facts from the text that was read. Yes, I did get the paperwork done in the anticipated period of time.
Now, I think it silly to purchase/rent an audiobook for the sole purpose of studying or classwork. I would much rather have a text that I could refer back to. A book that I want to read without having a great deal of interest in recording facts, well, it'd be great to have the audiobook.
I hereby apologize to anyone that I ever ridiculed for their casual use of audiobooks.
