So I've decided to put down some thoughts after being told by a handful of people to "write something already". Call this a rant post I guess.
I have come to the conclusion that Silver Medal really is 'First Loser'. Comedians have milked this line for years but I came to the conclusion that this is true what I realized what the first 3 questions we would ask if we met an Olympic silver medalist: "Which Olympics?", "Which event?". "How much did you lose by?". Now maybe we'd be nicer and say "How close was the finish?" or something but really we're asking by how much did they lose. It doesn't matter if it's a timed event, distance event or points event.
Has anyone seen the new diaper commercials with Salma Hayek? I think they are for Pampers. Well there's a campaign they are running where every time you buy pampers they'll donate one immunization to Africa. I don't remember what the immunization if for. So 1 box = 1 saved kid. Sounds very noble doesn't it? Now I happened to catch the small print during the commercial and it says that each immunization costs $.05. That's it, five cents. A single nickel. You buy a box of grossly overpriced disposable diapers and they donate a nickel. You can be sure the extra profits they see from the extra sales will greatly outweigh how much they spend on shots. And isn't Salma engaged to a billionaire or something? Couldn't he just write a tax-deductible charity donation cheque for the whole thing and look like a bigger philanthropist than Warren Buffet or Bill Gates? I guess it's true, it's not really important what you do, it's how you can spin it.
That is all for now ... later.
