Holy crap, I finally have something to write about! It may end up being more of a photo blog, and I'm afraid all the photos are boobless, but who the heck wants to see boobs on a zebra anyway.
One of the things I love about South Africa is the ridiculous beauty of nature and the insane biodiversity. It's also fortunate that the country is riddled with nature reserves. Today I visited Vernon Crookes for the first time, and holy crap, we will be back.
The trails are well maintained and marked, so staying on the path was easy enough. (Un)fortunately others had the same idea. More specifically - wildebeests and zebras. Zebras I'm okay with, but the horny guys freak me out a bit (see what I did there *wink wink*). This is the first time ever that I've been near these guys on foot. Trust me, the flimsy metal of a vehicle between you and a herd of big, wild animals makes you feel a whole lot safer. Luckily all they did was snort at us. One of the zebras showed us exactly what she thinks about my camera by taking a dump while I was taking photos, but that's about it.
Besides the big boys, there were tons of birds, plenty of interesting flowers that I now need to go research and a couple of cool creepy crawlies. I need a way better camera for the birds, but here's the rest.
And my favourite by far... Still haven't identified it, so any help with attaching a name to this guy is welcome.
The hike was cut short thanks to the weather going from sunny to crapy, but we still had a good 2-hour walk. I really want to come and stay here over the weekend with a couple of friends, not just because it's beautiful, but because you get to stay in a tree house. A bloody tree house!! I'll be there like a bear. Or a Suicide Girl. Or whatever.
What are you up to this weekend?
