last month the kkk came to my university's town. twice.

i didn't mention it at the time because i was dealing with it, as well as trying to graduate from college, but it scared the shit out of me and today i was reminded of it, thanks to this.

the first time they came, they came during the night. they drove around campus, and around town, and dropped off recruitment letters, trying to gain new members.

they did that because we had had a person of color takeover week the week before, raising issues of racism present on campus. a white student had felt threatened, and had gone to the media and told them that he felt scared.

so the kkk came to try and save that white student. and, of course, to put the rest of us non-white (and gay) students in our place.

the second time they came they had a full scale rally down main street. in their hoods, and with flags and such. only four members of the klan officially took part, but the crowd was full of very creepy people that day.

it scared me, but it didn't shock me. racism is still very much alive, white power is still very much alive, and we can't forget that for a moment.
