So i feel the need to expound on my last journal entry.
When people use chat room abbreviations in conversation I feel it is as though the person is saying they dont want to bother with typing 2 or 3 extra letters in order to communicate, hence i do not put much value in a statement containing them. If they couldn't put forth the effort to type those 2 extra letters in order to make their idea understandable, I don't feel the need to take the statment seriously. Slang and bad grammer is an entirely different story. Slang words generally express a slightly different meaning than more standard expressions and therefore have purpose and value. I feel close to the same about non-standard grammer. What we consider non-standard grammer could, instead, be considered regional or cultural and therefore carry information about the speaker and have value as a separate dialect. I do not propose that we all follow standard english to the very letter in every situation, but I feel that outright abbriviations of language are a degredation of communication.
