i like being a member of a group here on the site. i think people are much nicer on specific group boards and are much more interested in getting to know people in that group since its a much smaller portion of sg members and they are more likely to have something in common. and i would guess people are nicer in smaller comunities with less anonimity surrounding their posts...
there's something about the internet that can turn people in to mudfucking assholes. something about being annonomous that makes people think they dont have to care about other people personally. i think another big contributer is that on the internet, comments can be taken way out of context becasue there is so little context to begin with. becasue there is no way of knowing the tone of voice with which the comment was made and there is little opportunity to explain one's self, things can seem much stupider or much meaner than they actually are.
missunderstandings aside, i think most people could use a little time to think about what they're posting to run an "asshole" and "15-year-old-of-the-day" check.

i've had more interesting jobs than my current one but at least it gets me in a morgue, which is close to where i want to be. and it does make for interesting dinner conversation.
