Dive Bars
So I've never been the kinda girl who likes to go downtown for partying and dancing. Yet I do enjoy knocking back a few drinks, whether or not I'm an alcoholic that's a completely separate journal entry. I mean I never realized how unconventional I was until I was telling a story about me coming home from work (during my Circuit City days):
B- So how was your day?
K- Well it was ok, it was a little tough, stocking all those dvd's by myself.
B- That sucks, what are you doing now?
K- I came home made myself a margarita and watching something on the sci-fi channel
I guess drinking by yourself is a big red you might be an alcoholic flag. In any matter, after work I do enjoy relaxing to a few cool drinks. I'm not much of a beer drinker, it's too bitter and I can't get used to the taste. Every single person I've met swears they're experts on taste buds "Oh you just haven't had enough beer" or "you need to find the right one for you"....needless to say I've had beers and I just don't like the bitter taste. So I'm all about the mixed drinks: margaritas, pia coladas, lava flows, rum and coke, long island iced teas, tequila sunrises and my new personal favorite a dirty vodka martini....yummm.
I guess with so much hard liquor I've been able to build up my tolerance since it takes FOREVER for me to get a buzz, drunk you say? only once and that's when I played a modified version of the classic "Chutes and Ladders"...I played, "Shots and Ladders" going up a stair was one shot of tequila, going down a chute was 2 shots of tequila. Not ony did I kick ass and win the game, but I finally got drunk after 13 shots of tequila.
This last friday, Todd and I decided to go to a dive bar near work, this is when he introduced me to dirty vodka martinis. It's too bad I only had about an hour to talk with him, after his 9-5 job where I work with him he has a second job after that. So I only had a chance to drink one martini with him. This place was dark and seedy, no young people trying to hook up with each other, just sour bitter people drinking away their sorrows at the bar. I was at home. We decided to continue our drinking spree after his 2nd job, and we met up at the Jewel Box. Compared to the other place, Victor's, the Jewel box was a more "happening" place. Again it was miles away from gaslamp quarter in downtown. Just a bunch a locals chatting it up, playing some pool and eating Jewel box quesadillas---a concoction of fried potatoes stuffed in a quesadilla.
I think I may be becoming a dive bar hunter...oh beware, beware.

Perhaps in my drunken ramblings I mentioned it.
The Nite Owl is a fun place, my home away from home.
Maybe us SG'ers should invade it one evening?
