Hey SG land!!!
After a wee hiatus on SG, I have decided to be active on the site again, and I couldn't be happier to be back!
Since my last blog, I have graduated cosmetology school and am now a fully licensed hair stylist. I recently have moved back to Toronto to pursue my dream of becoming an international editorial hair stylist, and started my new shiny job last week as an assistant stylist at one of the city's top salons. I am very excited to be here, learning more about editorial work, and perfecting my craft. Not to mention I am currently staying with my lovely friend @nymph who I met through SG 7 years ago! How could I not be having a blast?!! I also have been seeing ton's of @renna which makes my heart happy.
AND.
I have a brand spankin' new set making its debut in member review real, real soon!! Like, in a day soon!! I had so much fun shooting this set! Shot by the talented and beautiful @shaine ! Go show it lot's of lovin's!!!
ARCHIE - BELOVED ABSENTEE
SO,
I thought I would also throw some SG homework into the mix. Let's start with...
SUMMER PLANS AND FAVORITE SUMMER PASTIMES
One of my favorite summer pastimes is modeling for creative shoots outdoors. Here are a couple of my favorite shots from a photo shoot I did with photographer Dana Brushette!
I also spent the month of July in Ireland to visit my family/explore, and I had a fantastic time!
I had my first lesson in archery, which I instantly fell in love with!
I spent a day learning basic falconry which is an experience I will never forget!
I did a lot of hiking.
I also did a lot of swimming in the ocean, checked out a bunch of museums, explored lots of castles, but above all, I am most thankful for the time I had with my family. It was so wonderful to see them again, and it was extra difficult to say goodbye this time.
On my adventure, my dad gave me some of the best advice I have ever received. Which brings me to another SG homework assignment;
WHAT IS YOUR BEST ADVICE?
I had a lot to think about on this month long trip, about my career, my relationship, and what direction I really wanted to take with my life. A few days before I was to fly back to Canada, I was feeling rather stressed out and upset about all of the things that had been weighing heavily on my mind. I decided vent to my dad about everything over a pint. After spilling my guts, he simply asked me if I had ever read a poem called "if" by Rudyard Kipling. I had n't heard of it, so he told me to read it before I went to bed that night. It really put things in perspective for me, so I thought I would share it with you guys;
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!
...................good advice indeed.
