I love sitting in the dark with other people.
Went to Manchester to see my girlfriend, reason to be happy No 1.
Saw the film Garden State, reason No 2.
Later that night went to see Interpol play.
Now usually I check to see who is supporting but this time I didn't.
Anyway just as we walk in the support comes on and I immediately recognise the first bar of drum intro to be First Wave by Secret Machines whose record I have been digging for quite some time now. Reason No 3
Reason No 4, well that would be Interpol. Fucking amazing.
Sometimes when I'm watching a band everything just clicks into place, you know, is just perfect, and the tears come. Not bawling like a baby you understand,more of a mild leakage, and I do manage to hide it from people around me what with it being so dark, except from my girlfriend, she knows me too well.
If I was wearing a cap I would have doffed it to the unsung hero of every great gig you have ever been to, the sound man.
One more thing.
I've been listening to Gwen Stefani's record lately and I like it, but I can't decide if it's my mind that is dirty, or if she is dirtying up my mind.
