Sooo, I posted that I was attempting pastry dough not just for the first time since going vegan, but for the first time with yeast EVER. @smashbase kindly stated that I should show pics or GTFO.
Soooo, time to show you what happened.
I tried my very hardest to follow this recipe:
Minimalist Baker - Easy Sticky Buns
And.... uh. Well okay, I'll show you.
Things seemed to be going pretty much okay until it came time to roll out the dough. It seemed a lot... spongier than it should. Almost fluffy, as opposed to dense, like it seemed to be in the recipe. [Bakers, help me out here. Should I have used less yeast? Less vegan butter? help?] but I kept on keeping on, because I'm not gonna let some squooshy dough get me down.
Of course, the recipe calls at some point for you to 'roll the dough tightly' in order to create the scrolls.
This proved entirely impossible. But hey, I rolled, cut, baked. And this is Mimimalist Baker's final result:
And here's mine:
After taking them out of the oven, the recipe calls for you to 'carefully invert' the scrolls. I tried, to, I really did. Here's her inverted scrolls:
And uh. Here's mine:
As you can see, they didn't really... do the thing. Or hold together in the slightest. But you know what? While they don't taste like a traditional scroll, they taste pretty fucking good. If you have any ideas for how to make them less like mine and more like hers, leave a comment?
