so, as promised, the drag bingo tale. actually, the evening was fun, but not exactly wildness. basically it is standard bingo, but the callers are drag queens and it serves as a fundraiser for the local aids service organization. i have done alot of work in public health with hiv/stds, so i try to stay involved. they hold the event regularly, but i was especially excited because of the featured guest, miss tammy faye baker (or now, messner)!!!
ok, let me just tell you that i LOVE tammy faye!! no, not in a religious way, but definitely in a drag queen way. she totally rocks my world - melodramatic, performative, a spitfire, and actually a very nice, open hearted person. she was an absolute stitch at the event. there was a strong queer contingent, and she made really wonderful (albeit religious) references to how we are all part of one human family, all love is good love, etc. except, i made that last one sound dirty and she meant it in a clean christian way.
aside-- i think that jesus and mary magdelene were totally getting busy, and i think god was so okay with it. to quote shug in the colour purple, "who do you think invented all them feelings?"
anyway, i was a terrible insomniac as a child, so i used to watch ptl in the wee hours. i thought it was fiction, like a variety show, and i absolutely loved it. each week i waited for the tunes and the tears. it was SO FABULOUS when they opened the theme park. i watched that episode over and over again. on a family car trip we drove around the park just for fun. my family is catholic, but the sheer wonderment of the wonky excessive christian capitalism was too much to resist. and yes, tammy faye had a make-up store for god fearing, but still ho-ishly decorated, women. and now, i guess, drag queens.
i didn't win anything, but i did get my picture taken with tammy faye and trade hair care tips with the fabulous drag queen named ho chi man. loved it!!
it was a fun night of people watching/interacting as well. and according to my friend i got scoped by a brainy babe. hmmmm. i always seem to miss these things. all i know is that she was wearing all black and had cool glasses on. i do love glasses - so sexy. oh yeah, and some guy came and put his arm around me and asked my name, then immediately ran away. i didn't even say anything to him. he just bolted. weird, huh? in preciousness, one of the women at my table was wearing a sweater with snowmen on it. she commented that the skulls on my sweater could probably kick her snowman's ass. i found this hilarious from a woman in a headband and those crazy "i am 40ish" bermuda shorts ... and of course, pearls. i kept my peeps on this one table of slightly lost looking couples that couldn't quite get a hang of the little stamper thingy. there were all sorts of people there - it was a cran-tastic crowd.
so, it was a mild time, but still really super cute and happy. whee-ha.
ok, until later, my wunnerful folks. off to read some of yr fine words.

Tammy Faye is going to be on the "surreal life" show with vanilla ice, which should be a hoot.
And as far as the guy that put his mitts on ya, well, it wasnt you that caused him to bolt........ I confess it was my many minions stitched into your sweater. They report directly to me (you know, the whole King of Skulls thing) and they used their incredible telepathic power to give him a mental wedgie by my command.
I couldn't resist......sorry.
Oh, you should wear that sweater more often lol, preferably with some chain mail.
God how I wish that wasn't just a delusion on my part, sigh.
I am so glad that you got out and had a good time; it was well earned on your part after the move and all.
Thanks for the kind words in my journal, your posts always make my day a lot brighter.
Peace.
