Purple Woods Disappointment.
This weekend the boyfriend and I went to Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival in an attempt to recapture both of our lost youths. The last time either of us had been there was when we were probably about knee high. He was with his parents I'm told and I was on a school trip.
You know...I remember that place being so completely awesome and almost magical. I've yearned for years and years for the opportunity to go back there. That and I had an enormous craving for pancakes.
Well, we woke up insanely early (9am is early for me - lol) and were there for opening, which was 10am along with what seemed like a lot of other happy people and families.
It was colder than expected, and we could see our breaths in the air as we had not yet reached the temperature high of the day yet.
The trail was steep as I remembered, but it seemed to be a lot...shorter. And a lot less fun. "Pioneers and Natives" (terms I use here loosly as they had present day winter coats on underneath things. I used to be a Pioneer Child at a Museum. We didn't get to wear nice present day coats - EVER. Laaame)
Anyways. We got to the bottom of the tiny little trail, had some luke warm applejuice with cinnamon added that they called hot apple cider and some dry pieces of crap they called pancakes.
Nothing is ever as I remember it. I should have learned that from a couple weekends ago when I went to the Science Center. Nothing is ever as good as you remember it being when you were a kid.
Things either change too much or don't change enough. The good part is I got to spend some quality time with my boyfriend
