AP's Too-Young-To-Gamble Vegas Vacation
Part One
We arrived in Las Vegas Saturday afternoon, and the moment we stepped out of the airport, we understood just what we were in for. My first impression of the heat was that it felt like a hand dryer. Watching the local news later, we learned that it was indeed record heat for Sin City, barely dipping below 120 the entire time we were there.
But we drank lots of water, and Allison only got light-headed once. First day we saw the Bellagio, Aladdin, Paris, and made the trek back up to the Venetian, where we were staying. A few from the delightfully tacky lobby of Bellagio:
Woke up the next morning already exhausted, got breakfast at Bellagio, and saw the far end of the Strip: Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Excalibur. Rode the New York New York roller coaster (which is still one of the best I've ever ridden).
And saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
I want to buy out all the reels of that movie and build a little house out of them and live there forever. It even had a preview for The Corpse Bride, Tim Burton's new movie made in Nightmare Before Christmas stop-motion style.
My mouth did not close throughout the entire preview.
That night we went to see Penn & Teller at the Rio. I've been a huge fan of these guys since I was far too young to get 80% of their humour. If you aren't familiar with them, they are a comedy/magic duo with a very twisted style. The slogan for their Vegas show is "Guns, Fire, Bondage, and Some Iffy Stuff." Lots of routines that involve someone getting shot, hanged, or caught in bear traps. And Penn is something like 6 foot 8. Fucking beautiful. Got to meet them after the show too, and they were both extremely congenial. I'm a little sad that the pictures didn't turn out well though. Alas. Win some, lose some.
