Sooooo tired.
Two concerts back to back after very long days of work.
Wedsenday was Mono and Pelican, yesterday was Mogwai. More post-rock then you can shake a stick at!
Ok...starting in order:
Pelican. They're like a heavy metal band without a singer. Very good. Although I always get confused when bands don't hace accents. I can't tell you the last time I saw a band without either a foreign, southern, or Japanese accent. Loud. If I wasn't exhausted and needing a smoke break half way through their set I would have appreciated it more.
Mono. The Japanese love child of Godspeed and Mogwai. They can be very quite to very loud at the drop of a hat. There was this weird creepy green light shining on them throughout the set. Which made their movements even creepier. They all seemed to have enormous amounts of straight black hair, that bobbed and thrashed around while they played. It felt like a Japanese horror film. Very creepy. Which made their soundtrack-style of music fit their stage persona perfectly. I definately want to see them again.
Mogwai. What can I say? They never disappoint. This was I think the third time I've seen them, maybe fourth. The played alot of new stuff, but they always happily end with the old. Everytime I see them I am always in awe of the wall of sound they create. Its hard to even explain unless you've heard it. Its impressive to say the least. I'm kind of bummed they didn't play Ex-cowboy or Two wrongs make a right but they might next time. I mean I've seen them play them countless other times, but man are those two good live.
Other side notes. I was teaching my beginners class last night and we had a visitor. Only one of the girls showed up, so we were just hanging out and talking. When suddenly a mouse runs out. I am not usually so sheepish but its a small room filled with all sorts of bags on the floor, so we ended class early and left the rodent to its business. So I got kicked out of my store by a mouse.....isn't that funny?
Besides going and getting my haircut Saturday I plan on spending a big chunk of my weekend asleep. I am so tired I can't even keep my eyes open. Its going to be a mucho coffee day for me!
Its a week like this when I realize....man...I really am getting old. Because I don't remember feeling this hurt after two long nights when I was 21!
