I'm the most easily startled person I've ever met. Seriously, it's bad. Ask anyone who knows me, if you look at me the wrong way I will jump. I absolutely love real-life paranormal experience stories, love shows like Supernatural, love haunted houses, ghost tours, etc. However, I have always hated horror movies. I do NOT like things on screens jumping out at me. I hate suspense.
Yesterday I decided I needed something to distract me from life and school, so I found a cheap PC game. I grew up playing PC, but haven't much throughout my 20's. My reflexes aren't what they used to be, so first person shooter games are a frustrating challenge.
So I bought Demonologist.
I had not a clue what it was, but it was super on sale. Turns out, it's a terrifying horror game that learns from what you say out loud. The ghosts and demons interact with you. Every time you least expect it, something jumps out at you and scares the shit out of you.
Naturally, I started livestreaming myself getting the shit scared out of me. I've never had the confidence to livestream anything before, but for some reason I'm having a blast. I bought Demonologist yesterday, and probably played for a total of at least 6 hours combined. You have to take breaks with that game. I woke up sore this morning, and I'm pretty sure it was from being all tensed up like that for so long. It's that intense.
The player is a ghost/demon hunter. The game starts as a slow burn, but still manages to keep you on your toes. Once you figure out the right things to do (I had to watch a couple beginner videos and read up) things start to ramp up. It's a combination puzzle/horror/mystery solving game with a surprising level of cognitive work required on the player's part. At first, the reflex level required fits me, but I'm terrified to be "hunted" again.
There's something incredibly nostalgic about getting back into PC gaming after such a long time. I'm having a lot of fun getting into an old hobby in a new genre, a direction I never would have expected to go. Not the game I expected to get me back into gaming. But I'm committed now :D It's certainly keeping my heart rate up. I was told my screams are more terrifying than the game.
Thank you all <3 <3 <3
