Not much is new lately. I have been going out less than I used to and its kind of nice. I suppose if it were nice summer weather outside, I wouldnt want to stay at home so much. So the wife and I joined NetFlix about a month ago and we've definitely been getting our money's worth! I never used to watch that many movies before I met her, as my attention span is way too short when Im alone. Thats why I own so many cartoon boxsets and music video collections and concerts. They require 20 minutes maximum at a time and its easy to stop these types of entertainment and come back to them. But now that I have someone to watch movies with on a regualr basis, we've been catching up on all the movies we've never seen. Then again, I now tend to fall asleep towards the end of the movie and miss out on what happened But, Ive been getting better at that lately. It usually has to do with drinking and sitting around, which makes me very sleepy more times than not.
We've also been playing the shit out of Super Mario Galaxy. Damn that game is fun! I beat the game about a week ago, but since I am a completist, Im went back to find the other 25 stars I had missed so far. Currently Im at 100 out of 120 right now. The wife has about 60 stars and will probably beat the game any day now. I saw that Super Mario Galaxy won Best Wii Game and Best Action Game awards on SpikeTV's 2007 Video Game Awards last night. We were definitely sick of seeing Guitar Hero 3, Halo 3, and the Orange Box constantly nominated for just about every single award they offered this year... sheesh! Aaaaand, I was uber suprised and a little pissed off that Metroid Prime 3 Corruption didnt win shit! pffft. They'd betta recognize, yo!
Dont forget, my Chicago peeps, about the SGC Meet'n Greet Pre-Holiday Fuckabout this Saturday night!
Lastly, I leave you with several great albums I have discovered in the past couple of weeks...
This time im including a snippet of music industry reviews combined with my own thoughts.
Afghan Whigs - Unbreakable: A Retrospective 1990-2006
Afghan Whigs first ever compilation and is an extraordinary portrait of one of American rock's most distinctive bands from the 90's. To this day, Im still a bit sad this group broke up. Greg Dulli is nothing but a pimp and a stud in my book.
Another Animal - Another Animal
Another Animal features three members of Godsmack and the former singer of Ugly Kid Joe. This band was formed after Godsmack singer Sully Erna turned down about 27 of the 30 songs his band mates created for the album IV. They knew these songs were too good to just throw away, and they were absolutely right!
Cesium 137 - Proof of Life
Cesium 137 have continued to embrace other electronic dance music genres in order to forge a fresh sound. The evolution of this album focuses on classical music tendencies as well as their rampant technophilia. I wasnt too impressed with their earlier releases, but this one suprised me greatly and has a hard time leaving my album playlist.
Din A Tod - The Sound Of Crash
Din A Tod gift-wrap their reflections on power and hysteria, the world, the universe and everything else into groovy 80's-ish beats, versatile song structures, somewhere between Minimal Electro, Wave and Electro Clash, and catchy tunes that have been stripped down to the bare essentials.
Soman - Mask
Soman delivers an album of uncompromising sound structures, mixing noise, electro, industrial, and techno to devastating effect. Reminds me a bit of Combichrist at times, but less angry and less constant repetitive beats.
