Blog Post #1: Yes Means Yes!
Hello all! I'm oh so excited to be a Hopeful on SG. I have been looking up to these girls from the tender age of 16 (yeah, 16. I hung out with older kids, aight?) But it took escaping the sorrowful Midwest, transplanting to Seattle, uprooting myself from the Emerald City, and finally settling in LA - where I've met more like-minded people in one place than anywhere else I've ever been - to make me think to myself: "Well, fuck, why not? I can do this too!"
And so I did.
Human sexuality in this porn-driven (NOT referring to SG. I love and respect SG for its honest and REAL take on feminine beauty and sexuality), unrealistic, media-driven capitalist culture (where the currency is both paper money and skin - though more likely skin) we live in has disgusted, fascinated, and intrigued me for quite some time. It would seem that to advance in this culture you either have to know somebody or blow somebody. (Pardon my forward nature? Nah, not really.) I have studied it both personally and academically, through exploring my own sexuality (yeah, I've been around, baby) and exploring the overall sexuality of our culture as a whole.
I have come to these realizations:
- Fuck their standards.
- You (yeah YOU, all of YOU, and even me) are BEAUTIFUL.
- Don't feed into the rape culture bullshit that has been shoved down your throat since before you can even remember.
- See media-skewed sexuality for what it really is, and for what it is not. (It is not real life, or real sexuality.)
- Respect yourself and above all, LOVE yourself. (Every scar, every mole, every stretch mark - all of it.)
And to this totally fucked up culture in which we all undoubtedly reside (and cannot physically escape), I say this:
If you, society, had a face, had a heart, had a living, breathing body, had a soul, this is still all you would get from me:
And to everyone else, the misfits, the loners, the ones who look at the world around them and long for something MORE, my sincerest love, and my applause.
LOVE,
Aperio
