yeah, i definitely thought the beginning was a total cliche... but i was actually afraid it was going to:

A turn into a shitty older-man, younger woman love story

or

B turn into a "i got famous now i leave you" story,

that twist came totally out of nowhere. i love it when that happens, but i'm still really pissed about it all... good times.

I'll have some recommendations later...

1) House of Spirits by Isabel Allenda- Sometimes I forget how much I like this book. Not, perhaps, a great piece of literature... but I love it.
2) All About Eve- Bette Davis makes me swoon
3) Scar by Joe Henry- I'm currently listening to it and I think I may be biased because of the reference in the title track to a twisting vine (note the tattoo) but I think it's damn sexy.
4) pandas are our friends
