I just called Schweta - one of the girls I met in India earlier this year - to tell her that I'll be there in a month. Trying to get her on the phone was great.

'Hello, it's Anton. Is Schweta there?'
'(Indian I don't understand)'
'I'm from Australia. I met your sister earlier this year.'
'...(Indian)'
'Schweta?'
'(Indian) Schweta?'
'Schweta. I'm from Australia. I met her on a trip earlier this year?'
'(Indian) Australia (Indian) Schweta?'
'Yes.'
'You met Schweta on a trip here earlier this year?'
'Yep, that's right.'
'Ok, I'll get her!'

My Australian accent makes it really bloody hard for non-English speakers to understand me. In India I have to affect a weird British accent to have people understand me. And by affect a weird British accent, I mean I actually have to enunciate.

(Schweta is well, and I'll see her in a month. Her friend is performing in a play we'll go and see in Chandighar. So cool).
