Thursday I went and saw Knocked Up with Sophia. Had a Very Good Time. Also: an incredible film. Judd Apatow, you're a real genius and you write very funny words. In other news, every time I go near Oxford St. my wallet gets at least one hundred dollars lighter. It's really not all that good.
Saturday I went and saw a Newtown Jets down at Henson Park with Rory and Alex. Not much better than knocking back cheap KBs while watching a lot of young, fit men hit each other very hard in the name of sport. Especially when the PA guy sporadically interrupts the game with gems like: 'buy yourself a couple of raffle tickets -- you might just go home with a lot of seafood caught fresh out of the Cooks River by Tempe'; 'that's the best try you'll ever see in your entire life'; 'come out of the Royal Exchange after the game for a few quiet beers... and talk to Tom about getting a home loan fixed at 2%!'
We did hit up the Royal Exchange, which I'd never been to despite living in Marrickville for much of my younger years. I won a lot of money betting on the Panthers over the Doggies on a 1-12 spread, my win saved by a Penrith fumble in the dying seconds of the match. I've never wanted a man to score a try less.
Later we met a sweet bar girl named Lucy, sank far too many beers, bought a bottle of Jgermeister and drank it out the back at Cactus Bar, and spoke to a strange English lass for a few hours. Around eleven we were in such terrible shape we wrecked a Subway and hopped in a taxi. Rory fell asleep on our couch while Alex played Tupac extremely loudly. In my sent messages the next morning: 'Alex, please turn down the Tupac. It's very loud.'
Today was Streetballin' Sunday, so Peeps, Birdy, Alex, James, Brietta, and some dude named Grus hit the blacktop at Newtown North. We had an extremely good game. Very competitive, a lot of minor injuries, some genuine football tackles and, above all else, some high-quality basketball. My personal highlight was nailing a Lew Alcindor hook over Big Birdy. Mind you, I took a strong charge a few minutes later and nearly got posterised with a two-handed dunk.

To be fair, I suspect that "what it feels like" will be "having one's delicate hairs ripped out by a piece of thread". I continue, undaunted.
