I had a baby today. Not really, of course. The family that I nanny for had a baby on Saturday. Mom and Baby came home today. I was thinking I'd be lucky to get to hold the baby for a few minutes, because new mommies are usually so attached to their new babies, plus Grandma was there. Instead, Mom passed Baby off to me about fifteen minutes after she got home, and spent the rest of the afternoon either gone or downstairs, while I was upstairs with the baby and toddler (and Grandma, who spent the afternoon cooking and straightening up). I even fed the baby. I get the feeling I might be a primary attachment figure for this baby.
The environment totally sucks. It sounds like Mom and Dad had a big fight about naming the baby before they left the hospital, so everybody was all pissy. Not that they're ever in good moods anyway. And, of course, this rubs off on their toddler, whose sleep patterns are all fucked up, and is having possibly stress-induced rashes. Great place I work.
Btw, they didn't decide on a name for the new baby yet.
I just saw this CVS commercial for their digital photo printing, where this kid takes pictures of all the parts of his dad's body, and then prints them and tapes them together, and puts the photo dad across from himself at the checkerboard. It struck me as very sad.

Thanks! I'm SO relieved for the dog. Man, it's so hard having a pet, I can't fathom the stresses of parenthood.
