I got into a car accident the other day as I was leaving a shoot. Here's how it went down: I was parked parallel to the street on a steep residential road, facing down. I wanted to flip around to go back up the street, so I proceeded to make a very legal 3-point turn. This was a very a small street, so I pretty much blocked the whole intersection with my car, while trying to make this maneuver. I looked up to make sure no cars were coming, and I had to have missed this car pass me. As I went into reverse to back up, I backed into this 1997 Range Rover with about 6 high school kids in it. I swear she came out of no where! I'm a pretty damn good driver...and ironically, the other driver was another Asian girl. biggrin And, you're not laughing...

Anyway, I freaked out because I've never gotten into a car accident alone, much less as the driver of the car. I inspected her car, and there was visibly no damage. I, being a moron, looked at the right side of my car (at the point of impact, I assumed damage would've been on the right side) and noticed no damage at all. The young gal called her daddy, and we both decided that there was no serious damage and to just forget about it. I was completely fine with that. I get a phone call later that evening from her father. He claimed that there was a dent on her car. I didn't recall any dent, and even his daughter didn't notice any at the time of the accident. Her father and I agreed that dealing with our insurance companies would increase, so we came to a decision. He would get an estimate from a mechanic -- a friend of his -- and send me the bill. I agreed, knowing that any dent that would be on there would cost me no more than $300 because if I hadn't noticed it at the time, it probably wasn't that big to begin with. I called my ex-husband, a former cop, and asked him what I should do. Earlier this afternoon, I drove to the girl's high school to inspect her car (an agreement her father and I made last night). I took photos, and this is the damage, her father is crying about:

And a closer look will show the damage here:

As I mentioned before, I didn't notice any damage to my car. Well, this morning, my boyfriend and I noticed my tail light was broken and a huge dent in my bumper on the left side. Notice:

I had to call the girl's father back. To make a long story, short, my ex-husband had a little yelling match with the guy on the phone. He tried to say it was my fault (yet he wasn't even at the scene of the accident). I called my lawyer, and he said that in this type of situation, especially with no cops involved, the courts would be likely to rule this as "Comparative Negligence." This means that both parties are responisble for their own damage. I had to explain to this girl's father, a Chinese man, who could barely understand anything I tried to say to him, that neither of us want to increase our insurance, so let's just forget about it. I had ten times the damage she had on her car, and I didn't cry about it to him about paying for it. I told him that I would be happy to pay for my own damage and forget anything happened. Apparently, this guy's a pussy because he kept repeating the fact that the car was actually his wife's and that was the main reason why he was making a big stink about it. I assume his wife tries to call all the shots, being that he can't reason with her and is trying to gain something from something so small. "I am not trying to get money out of this, I'm just trying to get my wife's car fixed because she's really upset." The car is a fuckin 1997! It was made in god damn 1997 for shit's sake! On top of that, the car had all kinds of scratches on it, so I am guessing they just want to get a free paint job out of it. Fuckin assholes. My car is a 2005, and maybe I'm just an uncaring bitch because I'm not whining about it. I have yet to hear from this guy again. I had to explain to him that when we spoke last night, I didn't know I had damage done to my car, and I would've been comepletely fine with paying for their damage. But now this is a completely different situation given the new circumstances that have risen.

I hate people. I fuckin hate people, who drive around in SUVs. And I fuckin can't stand people, who live in America but can barely speak English.

I HATE YOU, DAMMIT!
