So, @missy's homework assignment this week is tell you about our first tattoo! And mine's kind of a good one, with a lesson and all that stuff, kind of lol.
You know, it's funny, now that I think about it, I think my first tattoo has only shown up in two photos in one set! Interesting.
So, it was my 18th birthday. I had just finished dinner with my parents and my boyfriend was home sleeping after or before a long shift, whichever. They gave me money to do whatever with, buy a game, clothes. It wasn't some crazy awesome amount, about $75 I think? I had decided while driving home that I was going to stop, without telling anyone, and get myself a tattoo.
I should note that I had absolutely no tattooed friends or acquaintances, nobody to talk to or advise me on any of this. So, that being said, I took my happy ass to a small chain tattoo parlor. I had thought about this for a while and I was sure of what I wanted: The word "Poison" tattooed in kanji on the back of my neck. So edgy! I went in and flipped through the booklet of kanji at the front case. I changed my mind and ended up settling on "Deadly." You know, because of how fierce and super hardcore I am. If we had emojis that rolled their eyes, I'd put one here. So it took maybe 30 minutes, I paid the shop minimum, and left.
Nobody gave me proper care instructions. I didn't get an infection, but a lot of the ink did fall out because of me not knowing how to properly care for it. I told my boyfriend when I got home. He wasn't mad but I definitely got a "holy shit." My parents were none too impressed but they're far over that these days, even supportive! It was my only one for quite a while. My feet came next.
Fast forward to last year and I'm getting a massage after an Otep concert. I wanted to get a reflexology massage and they were nice enough to set me up with their masseuse who was born and studied reflexology fully in Japan. We talked a lot during my massage about psychology, sociology, and homeopathy and got friendly enough that, at the end, I asked if he by chance recognized the symbols on my neck and, if so, could he tell me what they were? He kindly obliged, saying that my tattoo reads "Enjoy Life" and that it's nice and I shouldn't be worried about it. Talk about a relief! I really hope he wasn't lying just to spare me! haha
Oh, the lesson? Don't get tattoos of things when you don't know what they say. Yeah. ♥
