so, I work with two jehova's witnesses and they try to explain their religion to me. The more I listen, the less sense it makes. Apparently, they start off as "publishers", which means that they put in as much service as they have time for. Service is when they walk door to door "selling" God. They have the option of going to "pioneer camp" where they learn to be better Jay Dubs, as I like to call them. After this two week camp their title changes to pioneer, and they are then expected to put in at lest 70 hours of service a month. Every week, however, they report to a "kingdom hall", what they call church, and have meetings. They do all this work with out the fun of a holiday, or a birthday celebration.
But it doesn't work like this for everyone. Some people are born "annointed" which means that when they die, they are going to rule in Heaven.
So, they start off as a publisher, but after some training, they upgrade into pioneers, or they can skip all that and be born annointed? i think that's how it goes.
It sounds like a DnD game to me.
I imagine them going to an elaborately decorated castle, where an annointed is dressed like a king, and all the worshippers say things like "I'm a level five publisher; I almost have enough experience points to be a pioneer, though."
The best part of working with them is that their Jay Dub friends come in and leave "the watch tower" in the bathroom.
For those that don't know, the watch tower is their magazine that has lessons. I read one about two months ago and learned that every aspect of everyday life leads to Satan's deception. There was even a full page illustration for me. It showed a knight in full armor, and each piece of this armor had different a purpose; for example, the helmet of rightousness protects against the deception of satan, and the shield of faith guards against satan's burning missiles.(Yes, it did actually say burning missiles.)
Maybe you better see why I compare them to Dungeons and Dragons?
I don't know. I don't get it. I'm perfectly happy being damned and agnostic. And if they're happy in this lifesyle, then more power to them.
Maybe someone could better explain it to me?
