Good God, I am positively exhausted This is the first time I've actually had to sit down & catch my breath since last week Tuesday. And although my diary is still crammed full of stuff to do, it's all good
Inbetween regular site meetings (the builders are moving along at a nice healthy pace), having my mom to stay, & signing several new faces to the agency, I have interviewed 3 young, creative female entrepreneurs for my next Marie Claire story & covered a LOT of ground in preparation for an upcoming fashion show I am helping organise. The show, featuring both established AND student designers, forms part of a large-scale animal rights festival, provocatively entitled Uncaged, & will be taking place at Jozi's infamous Horror Cafe on Saturday 9th June.
The aim of the event is to create awareness of the plight of animals in the modern world...to stimulate both adults & children into considering how we exploit our fellow earthlings for food, clothing, scientific research, entertainment & companionship, as well as the repercussions such exploitation may have for us & our planet...whilst simultaneously treating the public to a busy day & night of live music, arts & culture. All money raised (through entrance fee, stalls, donations & competitions) will be democratically distributed to a number of animal charities. And all products sold or promoted (including the alcohol!) will be both vegan & animal-friendly.
As far as the fashion show part of the proceedings goes, the only prerequisite we have given the designers is that none of their garments should use any fabric which comes directly from an animal or is a byproduct thereof (fur, leather, wool, silk etc). Other than that, they have complete creative carte blanche. I think it's gonna rock
Anastasya & her man Aragorn are the main organisers of the event
Anastasya
London International School of Fashion will be supplying us with student designs
SJ & his friend Estene, through their cheekily named sideline, are going to be putting the whole show together for us (lights, music, visuals etc)
Estene & SJ
And yours truly is obviously supplying the models
Below are some progress pix of our new house, taken from our neighbour's side of the dividing wall. This wall will be extended higher to create more privacy. Our builder seems confident that we'll be in by mid-July...
That's all from me for the next few days, boys 'n girls. I've got so much running around to do, that I probably won't be able to update again until the weekend
